Cacao Ceremony

Warm, heart-opening, uplifting, restorative and healing; ceremonial cacao is one of my favourite ways to take myself into a ritual or ceremony.

Traditionally grown in South America, ceremonial cacao is full of yummy goodness and compounds that elevate our mood, help us to connect to ourselves, and experience a state of bliss. The grounding that I feel from dropping in with a beautiful cacao is unmatched.

Cacao can be used as a coffee alternative, giving you that little energy boost without the crash later on or it can be used in a morning ritual if you have a little extra time to spend with her. I personally prefer to take my time with a cacao, set my intentions for the day, or fully drop in and pull some oracle cards, do some journaling and a free-flow dance. But, what you do with your cacao is totally up to you and how you feel on the day.

Cacao isn’t just a yummy and delicious drink… it has so many health benefits too. Full of iron, potassium, and magnesium, it makes it a really special drink to consume especially for women on their bleed. The magnesium and potassium in particular have a gift at reducing menstrual cramps, allowing you to relax into your femininity without the pain. Since our intuition is also heightened while we’re bleeding, cacao is a divine enabler for our intuition to flow.

Let’s jump into the creation process and ritual of your cacao ceremony

What you’ll need:

·      Ceremonial grade Cacao (You can use regular cacao but ceremonial grade prides itself on being grown organically, has minimal processing and retains a lot more of the juicy nutrients and benefits)

·      Equal ratio of water to milk in your favourite mug (I prefer soy or coconut to make it creamy)

·      A few dashes of cinnamon

·      Sprinkle of cayenne pepper

·      1 tbsp Honey

·      Sprinkle of salt

·      (You could also add maca powder for a little extra flavour and health benefits)

The Creation ~

1. Cut up cacao into small chunks

2. Pour ingredients into a small pot over stove

3. Gently whisk together ( I really like to play music and have a little dance around as I wait for my cacao to be ready)

5. Send love to your cacao as it blends

6. Don't let her boil.. you want it just hot enough to melt the cacao together. Boiling the cacao can mean it loses some of its nutrients and benefits

7. Pour into your fave mug and enjoy - maybe add some rose petals if you’re feeling fun and fancy

Ritual ॐ

You are your own guru, listen to your intuition and follow your own ritual, but below is the ceremony I love to do for myself

1.     I love to pop on my cacao ceremony playlist while I move through a ritual. I have linked my playlist at the bottom of this article if you would like some inspiration

2.     Lovingly hold your cacao up to your heart, feeling her warmth against your skin. Close down your eyes to connect deeper if you wish

3.     Acknowledge the sacredness of this plant medicine, where it has come from, how it has landed in your hands and the magic you are about to take in

4.     Wake up your senses – feel the heat of the cacao in your hands and on your chest. Smell her essence, observe her colour and steam

5.     Set your intentions – Speak into your cup of cacao whatever you need on the given day

“I surrender” “I open my heart to love”, “I am grounded”, “I flow through my emotions with love and ease”. You know what you need to hear. I love to speak my intentions, take a deep inhale, and breathe these intentions into my cacao with an exhale

6.     Holding your intentions close to your heart, take your first sip with awareness and consciousness. I like to visualise sipping in love as I do this.

7.     Continue to sip as you move through a journaling practice, or an oracle reading or anything else you feel you need to enhance your ceremony

8.     Surrender to the guidance of mama cacao – you may feel you would like to have a little dance to move some energy through your body, or you may feel there are some emotions which are ready to be processed. Stay open to her guidance and flow

Enjoy your ritual my loves, stay open and have a beautiful day!

I love you,

Livvy xx
